Job Description

Bioversity International (BI) needs your expertise to promote nutrient-rich and varied nutrition through research and the implementation of targeted measures. This centre, which was founded in 1974, is part of the Global Agricultural Research Partnership (CGIAR). The research conducted by Bioversity International focuses on preserving and harnessing the biodiversity of crops and wild plants. With its research projects, the centre aims to improve the food quality, nutrition and health of, above all, women and children in rural areas. Successful approaches to combating malnutrition are to be scaled up to increase their impact.

Your tasks will involve:
  • Planning and implementation of measures to promote vitamin A bananas in selected districts in Uganda and Tanzania
  • Involvement in the development and advocacy for Agrobiodiversity strategies to safeguard sustainable utilisation for food and nutrition security
  • Support for research on changing eating habits and the development of new approaches to promote varied and balanced nutrition
  • Involvement in an efficacy analysis to assess the contribution of vitamin A rich bananas to body vitamin A stores among vulnerable groups
Your profile:
  • University-level degree in nutritional sciences, nutritional epidemiology, household and consumer economics or a comparable field
  • Extensive research experience in the agriculture and food sector, preferably in development cooperation countries
  • Experience applying participative research methods and preparing information materials
  • Experience of data analysis and working with statistics software such as STATA, SPPS, SAS, R or
  • Genstat
  • Willingness to travel regularly to rural regions for research purposes
  • Fluent business English and, ideally, knowledge of French
  • In addition you have the citizenship of an EU member state, UK passport holders are eligible to apply
