Job Description

Position Summary

Futures Group is seeking One Health Regional Advisor for the USAID-funded Preparedness and Response (P&R) project based either in Nairobi, Kenya or Kampala, Uganda. The Advisor will support the design, execution, and implementation of national One Health platforms in sub-Saharan African countries. The successful candidate will work with Futures Group HQ staff as well as the project’s Africa Regional Director and other project staff.

About the P&R Project

The P&R Project is one of three USAID supported projects in the wider Emerging Pandemic Threats- 2 (EPT-2) program. Broadly EPT-2 is designed to help countries to be able to successfully prepare for and respond to emerging pandemic threats from zoonotic diseases. The other two USAID-supported projects are the PREDICT Project led by UC-Davis and One health Workforce lead by the University of Minnesota. FAO and WHO also are part of the EPT-2 program. P&R focuses on helping countries organize for such threats, mainly through the setting up of One Health platforms that are designed to bring together multi-sector national teams. Futures Group contributes to P&R in the areas of advocacy, policy support and gender analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in national assessments for One Health Preparedness
• Develop messages for and carry out advocacy for a One Health approach
• Contribute to the project’s support to unaffected countries to prepare for a potential Ebola outbreak
• Attend project meetings and events as required.
• Support research and data collection as required in the development of evidence-based advocacy messages
• Contribute to organizational and policy analyses that contribute to a One Health response
• Contribute to a balanced gender approach to One Health and Ebola preparedness


Qualifications

• Master’s degree in epidemiology, MD or DVM or other related degree from an accredited university or college,
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and equivalent work experience relevant to One Health
• At least 5 years of experience in One Health and/or a related field
• Experience working with national Ministries of Health or Agriculture
• Experience with evidence-based advocacy and policy analysis
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, problem solving & documentation skills
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills


Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility
