About the role:

We have an opportunity for a Peripatetic Area Manager to provide resilience to VS’s operational delivery across England and Wales. VS has a network of locally based Area Managers who have responsibility for the effective delivery of all our services in their defined geographical area. This is a fixed term post for a period of 12 months.

As a Peripatetic Area Manager you will undertake short term assignments in VS local services, providing essential interim cover where required, ensuring continuity for teams, the maintenance of high quality relationships with commissioners and enabling VS to be well positioned to take advantage of new opportunities to develop and expand the support we provide to victims of crime.

Our services span England and Wales and, though this role is predominantly home based, you must be prepared to travel to support teams and meet commissioners locally, which will involve some overnight stays.

As Peripatetic Area Manager you will need to be able to adapt quickly to new situations, demonstrate charisma in building relationships and be confident in your ability to rapidly solve problems. You will also need to have an excellent understanding of the context in which VS operates including knowledge of the legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements relevant to a national charity.

Working closely with our funders you will ensure the uninterrupted provision of vital support services for victims of crime in accordance with service contracts. You will rapidly develop and maintain effective relationships and formal partnerships with key stakeholders, and promote and develop the services of VS.

You will be part of the wider Area Manager team and responsible for ensuring services comply with national service delivery standards and best practice guidelines. You will also represent the charity in an appropriate and professional manner to commissioners, stakeholders, external bodies and the media, whilst acting as a voice for victims to the wider community

Key responsibilities of the Area Manager role are to ensure the successful delivery of a high quality, efficient and responsive services to victims, the identification of growth and partnership opportunities and building relationships with relevant commissioning bodies and other stakeholders. A focus on team development, and the monitoring of performance and quality are key within the role.

You will ideally have had experience of service development and bidding and/or negotiating for contracts and budgetary and financial control. You will have delivered services in a complex, customer focused organisation and have instigated, managed and successfully implemented change programmes or projects. You will also have experience of improving performance and building cohesive teams in challenging circumstances.
