This part-time, unpaid internship is an entry-level role that will introduce current undergraduate and graduate students to how international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs) secure foundation, corporate and individual donations and expand their programmatic reach. The Private Fundraising Intern will work with a new, growing team to advance the organization’s global growth strategy and targets, while gaining concrete experience in proposal development and management; donor cultivation and relations; and democracy, rights and governance.

From late August to late December, the Private Fundraising Intern will provide remote research, logistical and administrative support to IFES’ Business Development Team. This is a fully remote position; we are open to candidates based anywhere in the United States. Job Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • At the direction of the Business Development Specialist, the Private Fundraising Intern will:
  • Conduct and communicate research on foundations, corporate giving programs and private donors, as well as best practices and trends in private fundraising
  • Identify promising funding opportunities for IFES in foundation and corporate giving
  • Conduct preliminary research and contribute to drafts for fundraising plans in foundation, corporate and individual giving
  • Support fundraising efforts for fall programs including the U.S. Election Program (USEP)
  • Conduct initial fundraising activities for organization-wide spring fundraising events
  • Write preliminary drafts for proposal components; internal and external communications; and briefing
  • Participate in meetings and events, providing notes and readouts
  • Support analysis and communication of internal fundraising trends
  • Carefully track and organize donor interactions and research
  • Provide logistical and administrative support (i.e., preparing follow-up and other material for donor meetings)
  • Other duties, as required

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college/university (majors in non-profit management, public affairs, political science, international relations/development, governance or innovation and entrepreneurship or a related field are preferred)
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: you are a participant in a university-funded program; you are a participant in a government-funded fellowship program; you are receiving academic credit for internship experience; or an internship is required for your graduate program
  • Relevant experience, familiarity or interest in international development; fundraising; democracy and governance; or nonprofit management preferred
  • Previous internship(s) experience with an INGO or other nonprofit preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; familiarity with CRM software (i.e., Salesforce, Salsa, or Convio) is preferred, but not required
  • Fluency in English is required; other language skills are preferred
