(This position is only open to candidates with existing work rights in Australiia)

Australia’s 2017 Foreign Policy White Paper outlines a series of ambitious policy and program commitments to realise a secure, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Innovation creates opportunities to accelerate the achievement of this agenda and will be central to how DFAT works going forward.

The innovationXchange (iXc), launched by the Hon. Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2015, aims to catalyse and support innovation across DFAT. DFAT’s innovation activity has delivered valuable outcomes and learnings from its experimentation and early stage projects. New methods and partnerships have been tested, with a focus on trialling news ways of working to boost the impact of Australia’s aid program and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. More information is available on the innovationXchange website (

The iXc’s current portfolio of investments includes inclusive technology for development, economic growth and social impact, education, health, water and humanitarian assistance. The iXc’s regional focus maximises the impact of our financial resources in the Indo-Pacific.

The iXc continues to respond to the increasing demand for support from Australia’s bilateral and regional aid program, incubating ideas and supporting the adoption of innovative approaches in many different contexts.

The Program Managers will support the Social Entrepreneurship, Technology for Development and Health teams (positions may move in line with operational needs).

iXc has a strong preference for persons with demonstrated experience in either social entrepreneurship, technology for development and behavioural insights (nutrition and agriculture).

As a Program Manager, you will have development experience, including in-country, ideally in the Indo-Pacific region. You will be familiar with the design, monitoring and evaluation of development programs. You will have an understanding, if not experience, in the application of innovative design, contracting, monitoring and evaluation approaches, preferably in the development sector. You will have solid budget management skills and a sound understanding of IT systems.
