Objectives of the assignment
The Overall objective of this assignment is enhancement of the Competencies, performance and competitiveness of the SMEs. Specific objectives include:

  • To assist in the development of performance and productivity of participating firms.
  • To bring about positive behavioral and attitudinal change of the employer and employee in the firm,
  • To facilitate transformational growth of SMEs to the next level,
  • To enable them contribute to the national economy and poverty reduction,
  • To draw best practices/ lessons from implementation of this project and utilize as an input for similar projects,

Required positions:

  • 1 project Manager/Team Leader
  • 2 Business Management
  • 1 Marketing Expert
  • 1 Entrepreneurship Expert
  • 1 Operations management Expert
  • 1 Economist
  • 1 Industrial Technology Expert
  • 1 Financial Management Specialist

The consultant is expected to provide services in all the Main/ capital cities, zone cities and sub-cities (in the case of Addis Abab and dire-dawa).

Required staff : 134 person months in total, comprising:

Position K-1: One project Manager/Team Leader:

  • shall have Masters or above in Business Management, Marketing, Economics, Education, or related fields,
  • has at least 8 years of experience out of which 4 years in developing and implementing training programs and managing related projects,
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting need assessments and developing training modules/ curriculum, training materials etc.
  • A thorough understanding/ knowledge of the SME sector, in Ethiopia and of SME issues internationally,
  • Experience in International markets,
  • substantial knowledge of Entrepreneurship and Business Development Services,….

Position K-2: Two Business Management :

  • hall have Masters or above in business management
  • have at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • A thorough understanding of the /knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Wide experience in developing training module, curriculum, training materials, etc,
  • substantial knowledge in and experience in delivery of training in Business Management for SMEs,
  • Experience in BDS consultancy and mentoring,

Position K-3: One Marketing Expert:

  • shall have Masters or above in marketing
  • has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • A thorough understanding/ knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Understanding of Marketing issues facing SMEs in Ethiopia,
  • Having knowledge of experience in export market of SME products,
  • Experience in preparing training materials, modules, and providing training in the area marketing for SMEs, Services

Position K-4: One Entrepreneurship Expert:

  • shall have Masters or above in Entrepreneurship
  • has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • a thorough understanding of the /knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Experience in organizing training facilities, sessions,
  • substantial knowledge and experience in delivery of training Entrepreneurship and Business Development Services,
  • Experience in BDS consultancy and mentoring

Position K-5 : One Operations management Expert:

  • shall have Masters or above in Operations management
  • has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • A thorough understanding/ knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • At least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • Experience in organizing training facilities, sessions,
  • Experience in operations, material, HR,
  • Experience in identifying bottle-necks in training programs/activities and find take necessary measures

Position K-6 : One Economist:

  • shall have Masters or above in Economics
  • has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • A thorough understanding/ knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Experience in providing Business Development Trainings,
  • Experience in BDS consultancy and mentoring,
  • Experience in providing technical supports for SMEs particularly in preparing feasibility studies, business plans, and has International experience in SME issue,

Position K-7: One Industrial Technology Expert:

  • shall have Masters or above in Industrial Technology
  • has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training,
  • A thorough understanding/ knowledge of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Understanding of the technological technical skill limitations of the SME sector in Ethiopia,
  • Experience in organizing training programs, facilities and sessions for technical skill training,
  • Experience in consulting, Mentoring and advising SMEs in in the area of identification and selection of appropriate technology,

Position K-8: One Financial Management Specialist

  • Shall have Masters or above in Financial Management
  • Has at least 5-7 years of experience, in the area of SME training
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in delivery of training Entrepreneurship and Business Development Services,
  • Experience in providing training in the area of financial management for SMEs,
  • Organize sessions, awareness creation for SMEs on matters related to audit, compliance, financial regulations, etc
  • Experience in Working with SMEs, BDS consultancy and mentoring..
