Graphic Design and Communications Intern – United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)

Work Location: Remote
Expected Duration: 2–6 months
Type: UNPAID Internship (Full-time, 40 hours/week)
Department: Office of the Director, UNOOSA, Vienna, Austria

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer (Partnerships) in the Office of the Director, the intern will support the UNOOSA’s communication and partnership initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the design and production of graphic materials to support UNOOSA’s strategic communications using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and other design applications.
  • Participating in the full design workflow process, including concept development, storyboarding, drafting, receiving feedback, implementing revisions, and finalizing layouts.
  • Ensuring all design work aligns with UNOOSA branding, style, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Attending team briefings, reporting on project statuses, and actively engaging in collaborative meetings.
  • Assisting in video editing and sound design for multimedia projects.
  • Keeping abreast of trends and best practices in design, communication, and marketing and providing insights to enhance campaign design approaches.
Qualifications / Special Skills

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate degree programme (Master’s or equivalent).
  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree programme.

Additional requirements:

  • Computer literacy in standard software applications, including spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated interest in the United Nations’ mission and values.
  • Strong ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, with tolerance for differing views.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • No professional experience is required, but a relevant field of study is expected.
Languages
  • Required: Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Desirable: Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish)
