The Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho has received financing from the African Development Bank towardsimplementation of the Economic Diversification Support Project and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for consultancy servicesfor Red Meat Feasibility Study in Lesotho.
The overall objective of the assignment is to meet domestics demand for red meat production, and possibly increasing foreign exchange gains through export of surplus, facilitating employment and hence increased food security through a sustainable Red Meat Production System. The consultant will be expected to detail a farm-to-fork supply chain for red market in Lesotho covering cattle, sheep and goats; evaluate red meat processing and handling system; identify key policy and regulatory issues that may impact the development of the red meat sector; identify key institution and value chain support services which are currently available in Lesotho and identify gaps; evaluate the potential social, economic and environmental impact and implications associated with the development of the red meat sector. In the second phase the consultant will be expected to assess the economic and financial feasibility of implementing an integrated and complete value chain for red meat production in Lesotho; analyze and estimate the total investment required to roll out a full scale integrated production system; evaluate and estimate local demand for red meat as well as potential export markets; and identify resource requirements in terms of financial, technical and human resource for developing the red meat sector in Lesotho
The Ministry of Trade and Industry now invites eligible Individual Consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide CV’s indicating that they are qualified to perform the services including description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, etc.
