The East Africa Trade and Investment Hub (the Hub) partners with East African and U.S.
businesses to attract investment that drives economic growth and transforms the East African
private sector into vibrant global trading partners. Improving the region’s trade competitiveness,
encouraging the diversification of exports beyond natural resources, and promoting broader,
more inclusive economic growth will lead to more food secure and resilient East African
communities. The Hub supports two U.S. presidential initiatives: Trade Africa a partnership to
increase internal and regional trade within Africa, and expand trade and economic ties among
Africa, the United States, and other global markets and Feed the Future which strives to
increase investments in inclusive agriculture-led growth encompass improving agricultural
productivity, expanding markets and trade, and increasing the economic resilience of vulnerable
The Hub is seeking applications from qualified institutions with a catalytic financial tool facility designed to reduce the investment risk that is inherent in the agriculture sector within the region. This facility will be utilized to provide technical assistance towards the staple foods value chain agribusinesses that do not easily attract private capital. The facility will target high-impact staplefoods value chains such as maize, rice, cassava, wheat, sorghum as well as the services that support these sectors such as processing, financing for inputs, storage and logistics with demonstrated potential for large-scale job creation.
