Rationale for the Copy Editor Consultancy

AECF’s business model: We provide catalytic funding, advisory support and market linkages to early-stage and growth-stage businesses in the Agriculture and Renewable Energy, Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Technologies sectors
We are seeking a motivated and savvy Copy Editor to oversee our content editing needs in a fast-paced work environment. You will work with our partnerships and communications teams to curate compelling and accurate content for our organisation, proofreading, and editing, and collaborating with the partnership and communications teams to deliver quality material to both internal and external stakeholders.
Objective and Key deliverables of the Assignment
Noting that flexible and adaptive support will be built into this work, the major deliverables envisioned are listed below:
a) Review, organize, edit and consolidate material for knowledge products and donor reports ensuring logical structure and continuity of the argument; as well as clarity, readability, accuracy and thematic consistency.
b) With prior briefing from AECF, edit reports, papers, documents and other materials in the right style for the intended audience.
c) Edit digital media content as required including project factsheets; web pages; stories and knowledge products including forewords, prefaces etc.
d) Write blurbs, leads, headlines, report, and media posts aligned to the writing requirements for the organisation.
e) Review and revise content/text for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax – as well as arrange page layouts of photos, articles, and reports.
f) Research information presented in reports and documents to make sure that facts, such as dates, names, and statistics are correct and current.
g) Be alert to any potential legal problems in organisation’s written material, such as libellous statements or breach of copyright, and discussing them with the communications team.
Nature of Assignment and deliverables
This is a long-term assignment billed per work done. For each assignment, the consultant will deliver edited material in the same format received (either a word document or the design/layout file).
Reporting
The consultant will report to the Communications Manager.
Requirements
The consultant will be selected based on their proven experience, qualifications, and ability to deliver a quality product in a timely and efficient manner. Minimum qualifications and experience of the person will include:
· University Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or related field;
· Excellent track record as a copy editor along with experience editing documents for the development sector;
· Demonstrated ability to edit high quality, creative communications quickly and to style;
· Advanced grasp of the English language;
· Able to adhere to strict deadlines and be extremely meticulous to identify and correct small errors in punctuation, spelling, or grammar;
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
· Highly organized and detail oriented; and
· Good tact and diplomacy for negotiating changes with authors.

· A financial proposal indicating deliverable-based professional fee, inclusive of all applicable taxes in USD The AECF is obliged by the Kenyan tax authorities to withhold taxes on service contract fees as well as ensure VAT, is charged where applicable. Applicants are advised to ensure that they have a clear understanding of their tax position with regards to provisions of Kenya tax legislation when developing their proposals.
· Work Samples which should include three previously edited documents and unedited versions of these documents.
· A reference list of three including a description of assignments undertaken.
