The Program

The Australian Government has established the Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) in partnership with the Government of Fiji to implement its education, health and scholarship aid programs in Fiji and its scholarship and education programs in Tuvalu. The Facility will also support the delivery of Australia’s emergency preparedness and response efforts and governance sector support. As with all Australian Government aid, cross cutting priorities of civil society engagement, gender equality, disability inclusiveness, child protection and climate change will be integrated across all programs.

Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector (the Program) is a key component of the Facility. The focus of the support is on strengthening education service delivery as well as education systems strengthening, in particular literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), internet connectivity, and teacher development. The company managing the Facility on behalf of the Australian Government, Coffey, is currently seeking applications for the role of Research Manager – Education to be responsible for conducting three research studies in close coordination with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist and Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA) research focal point.

The Position

The Research Manager - Education will report to the Team Leader - Education and will work in consultation with the MEL Specialist and be responsible for conducting three research studies in coordination with the MEL Specialist and MEHA’s research focal point. Key responsibilities include:

  • Finalise the study work plan including all activities with realistic timelines and coordinate its successful implementation.
  • Liaise with MEHA to finalise the survey tools and processes.
  • Organise logistics and training for the research team and monitor progress of field visits
  • Collate and analyse study findings.
  • Conduct study interviews with District Education Officers, MEHA central office staff and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and finalise the study report for approval by MEHA.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified in a relevant discipline and have previous practical experience in managing and implementing relevant research studies, including experience supervising study/research team members. Previous experience in survey analysis and report writing will be highly regarded, as well as skills in project management, knowledge of primary and secondary education as well as gender and social inclusion principles and child protection.

This is a locally-engaged role that does not attract any international allowances and is open to Fiji citizens or non-citizens with no impediments to being granted a work permit if successful.
