Job Description

Cowater is currently recruiting an experienced Sanitation Marketing Specialist for an upcoming project in Zambia. This project will provide technical assistance to Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company and Lusaka City Council integrating social inclusion, gender mainstreaming and information, education and communication. This is a long term (three years), part-time position.

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in sanitation marketing in low-income countries
  • Five (5) years of experience in designing and implementing IEC plans for connecting poor peri-urban communities in low-income countries to networked water and sanitation
  • Strong demonstrated understanding of barriers facing poor peri-urban families in connecting to water and sanitation networks, hygiene issues and in designing strategies to address them
  • Significant experience in water and sanitation product promotion and marketing
  • Experience providing capacity building and technical assistance, particularly to local organizations and local government / utilities
  • Minimum university degree in business, marketing, development studies, sociology, public health, or other relevant field
  • Fluency and excellent written and verbal communications skills in English

Water, Sanitation and Environment

Cowater’s Water, Sanitation and Environment Group focuses on the planning and provision of accessible potable water, good hygiene, sustainable sanitation, and a liveable environment as essential requirements of health, productivity and a good quality of life. Our focus is on project implementation and the capacity building of institutions, community organizations and people, as well as appropriate affordable technology. We incorporate government, non-government and private sector institutions into our project designs, and put great emphasis on involving the beneficiary community in project and program planning and decision-making.
