Job Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Accounting Manager (SAM) to fulfill the following professional roles responsibilities within MCDI:

  • Overseeing the Finance team that supports the International Division based in Silver Spring, MD and overseas.
  • Supervising teams of finance staff supporting different MCDI projects, working in close coordination with the MCDI Division Director
  • Ensuring the financial management activities for MCD’s International Division
  • Implementing of (and as required assisting in the formulation of) financial management policies and procedures consistent with generally accepted accounting policies, and in particular US government grant accounting, as well as the policies of other donors and in keeping with MCD’s corporate policies, philosophy and principles

Required Knowledge and Qualifications:

Professional knowledge of the managerial accounting principles for private, federal and non-profit organizations, among them the following:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for not for profit accounting
  • Maine Accounting and Auditing Principles (MAAP), OMB Uniform Guidance
  • USAID, OMB circulars, CFRs, FARs, regulations
  • Risk management and insurance

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ successful financial management experience in positions with increasing responsibility in an international nonprofit with a budget of $10M or more
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. CPA is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills: ability to extract meaning from numbers and present analysis clearly and concisely to people with widely varying degrees of financial knowledge
  • Proficient with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of BlackBaud Financial Edge is a plus
  • Knowledge for French, Portuguese or Spanish a plus, but not required
  • Proven skills in managing staff and ability to build and support effective teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to form strong relationships with staff in a diverse work environment
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem solving skills; able to balance attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Highly motivated and highly organized and able to juggle competing priorities
  • Flexible, with a sense of humor, comfort with change, and a positive attitude
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Must work cooperatively with others and exercise good judgement
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
