Job Description

The Budget department’s overall mission is to provide support to all departments, both in the national headquarters and in the various regions, regarding their budgets and reporting needs to achieve the goals set out in the UNICEF USA strategic plan.

Reporting to the Managing Director/Controller, the hands-on incumbent will assist in the preparation of the overall UNICE USA budget.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

  • Play a key role in assisting the Controller/Managing Director of Budget, in the development of UNICEF USA annual budget including maintenance of customized budget application, development of spreadsheets, consolidating and reviewing data received, uploading of approved budgets to the general ledger and electronic distribution to staff

  • Prepare special Financial Reporting to UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP)

  • Ongoing analysis of progress and variances from plan, monitoring and reporting of financial results including the refinement of the projections/forecast platform with emphasis on the pipeline

  • Maintenance of the financial online reports in conjunction with IT

  • Work with Finance to develop automated accounting systems to track and report activities by cost centers and business units, improving accountability, accuracy, and transparency of financial performance and adding value to strategic management and decision making

  • Interface with various departments and staff at all levels to support them in budget and related matters

  • Assist in the preparation of reports for Finance/Board meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting or Finance, and a minimum 5 years’ experience in financial analysis and reporting, preferably in a not-for-profit environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Must be a detail and system oriented professional with excellent spreadsheet and analytical skills

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word; knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics and Management Reporter preferred

  • Ability to work independently with minimum amount of supervision

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals

  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with independence; ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality

  • Must possess a strong work ethic, and be a motivated, enthusiastic team player who embraces the mission of UNICEF USA
