Job Description

Summary of the Position

As a key member of the Global Public Health team, the Partnerships and Growth Manager/Senior Manager works with colleagues to position USP’s Global Public Health work to donors/funders and the private sector for business development, develops concrete capture plans and provides guidance to colleagues on the pre-positioning and capture phases for new opportunities. S/he is responsible for all aspects of new business from opportunity identification to proposal submission, in coordination with the Proposal Manager. Under the guidance of the Vice President, Partnerships and Growth (P&G), s/he builds strong relationships with donors and partners in targeted countries in collaboration with the Director for Asia and the Director for Africa, through advance intelligence gathering, stakeholder engagement and country visits.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for building on donor mapping to understand and develop potential clients (i.e.: institutional funders, host governments and the private sector)
  • Lead collaboration with the Directors for Asia and Africa, country leads and VP, P&G, to support the execution of global and regional new business agenda. Assignment of regions and/or a portfolio of countries will be mutually agreed-upon
  • Lead on gathering technical input and competitive intelligence from presence countries, subject matter specialists, and other resource persons. Build roster of external experts and contacts to support intelligence-gathering
  • Represent GPH to donors, identifying synergies and developing partnerships and alliances as appropriate
  • Responsible for keeping potential clients and key contacts engaged
  • On select opportunities, work with subject matter experts, including country staff, to translate technical solutions into a clearly articulated, compelling, and compliant proposal narrative; lead writer and or support writer as assigned and based on content and context knowledge
  • Develop content for capacity statements and other new business materials in coordination with the Senior Specialist, Business Development
  • Lead on developing customizable, boiler-plate content outlining best practices and evidence based approaches as articulated by technical and program staff  
  • Utilize program design expertise to guide quality program design
  • For funded proposals, participate in program design hand over to COPs/program manager(s).
Basic Qualifications: Manager
  • BA in a relevant field and 6-8 years of relevant experience or MPH/MA and 5 years of experience.
  • Proven track record of developing strong partnerships and winning consortiums
  • Proven track record in new business, including playing a central role in winning proposals (including but not limited to USAID, Global Fund, DFID, CDC, and Gates)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global public health and donor-funded programming including pharmaceutical management (preferred)
  • Fluency in English and a second language preferred.
Basic Qualifications: Sr. Manager
  • BA in a relevant field and 8-10 years of relevant experience or MPH/MA and 5-7 years of experience.
  • Proven track record of developing strong partnerships and winning consortiums
  • Proven track record in new business, including playing a central role in winning proposals (including but not limited to USAID, Global Fund, DFID, CDC, and Gates)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global public health and donor-funded programming including pharmaceutical management (preferred)
  • Fluency in English and a second language preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to facilitate team interactions.
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail and self-driven.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 50% and, at times on short notice.
