SENIOR SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICER, DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver, by amongst others, the implementation of its organization structure and the filling of all vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of Senior Social Welfare Officer, Department of Social Affairs.

Supervisor: Head of Division: Social Welfare, Vulnerable Groups, Drug Control and Crime Prevention
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and harmonize related development programmes and issues for marginalized and vulnerable groups
- Gather, summarize, analyze and disseminate information and decisions concerning vulnerable groups to all RECs and AU Member States;
- Monitor the implementation of decisions on vulnerable groups at national, sub-regional and regional level through progress reports;
- Maintain contact with relevant institutions involved in research and social development on vulnerable groups;
- Prepare and service AU meetings in connection with vulnerable groups;
- Cooperate with other institutions, Agencies, Organizations and NGOs dealing with the welfare and development of vulnerable groups with a view to raising awareness and maximize implementation of decisions and programmes;
- Prepare documents and write reports on issues relating to vulnerable groups;
- Participate in activities related to the welfare and development of vulnerable groups;
- Ensure that vulnerable groups are included in all social development issues and are included in the Agenda of the AU Commission;
- Participate in Seminars, Workshops, Conferences on issues related to the welfare and development of vulnerable groups and brief participants on AU’s programmes and exchange views and experience;
- Perform any other duties as might be assigned.
**Educational Qualifications and Experience Required:
Educational Qualifications:** Candidates must have at least a Masters Degree in Social Science, Sociology and Law.
Work Experience: Candidates must have at least 8 years of appropriate experience working with issues related to vulnerable groups
Other Relevant Skills:
Working knowledge of policy analysis and development and programme/project management, implementation and monitoring;
Experience in establishing epidemiological networks, analyzing information and deducing policy indicators.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environments;
Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
Good communication and negotiating skills;
Good planning and organizational skills.
Must be computer literate.
Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.
Age Requirement: Candidates must preferable be between 35 and 45 ears old.
Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$28, per annum plus other related entitlements-e.g. Post adjustment (40% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($12,012 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$6, per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the commission.
