Job Description

The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to coordinate Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) activities within Plan International implementation areas in Nigeria. You will provide technical assistance on designing a context specific TaRL programme approach focusing on learning outcomes of pupils through TaRL classes. You will provide overall leadership and technical support for mentoring, monitoring and documentation of lessons learnt, support assessments, mentor/teacher training and knowledge management.

You will coordinate the implementation of the TaRL approach in collaboration with the Education in Emergencies (EiE) specialist, Project Coordinators, Project Officers and the Government Quality Assurance Unit. You will ensure that the TaRL approach is aligned with Plan’s EiE strategy 2019-2021 and Plan Nigeria’s Country Strategy of 2020-2024.

You will be responsible for conducting and coordinating technical training based on learning outcomes and ongoing improvement in TaRL implementation for country program staff. You will also review and develop facilitation materials together for program staff and implementing partners including UNICEF, Street Child and TaRL Africa.

The Individual

To be successful in this role, you will have experience with participatory approaches to education, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or other related areas. It would also be ideal for you to have experience working with IDPs, refugees and other vulnerable populations.

You will have a university degree (or demonstrable work experience) in Education, Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, or other related fields. Previous experience in TaRL or in a similar innovative learning outcome approach is essential, alongside two-years experience working in an emergency setting.

You will be a strategic thinker with sound judgement who has the ability to make decisions in complex situations. You will have a strong commitment to continuous learning and lead by example to motivate the high performance of others.

Type of Role: 6 month contract

Reports to: Education in Emergencies Specialist

Salary: Competitive
