The Mecanism for the Support of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Madagascar is cofunded by different donors and is of high political relevance and sensitivity. The Mecanism consists of important financial and human resources. The Mecanism trains, coaches and finances Malagasy Civil Society Organisations with the objective of having a vibrant, independent and diverse Civil Society in Madagascar. It operates in different regions of the country with various regional offices. Most of the supported Civil Society Organisations are of small size, in need of advisory services and training. The Mecanism works intensely with the different Ambassadors of the donor countries and the idea is to develop further with other, new donors. The project is planned for a total of 5 years and it is foreseen that the Team Leader remains in place for the totality of the project. The Mecanism builds on a former EU-project and keeps its approach, with a focus on supporting CSOs demand driven and oriented on a structuring of the general Malagasy Civil Society.

Your tasks

  • You are responsible for the strategic orientation, the steering and the correct implementation of the Common Mecanism, in order to achieve the objectives set in support of Malagasy civil society.
  • You represent the Fund towards the different donors, Ambassadors and the representatives in the Governance Structure of the Common Mecanism, as well as at events with the Malagasy Civil Society and in individual meetings on a local level.
  • You are responsible for the reporting to the different donors.
  • You are responsible for the management of a larger team of local and international experts.
  • You support the technical and administrative team in their tasks to support Civil Society Organisations.
  • The project is foreseen for 5 years and the position of Team Leader would be foreseen that time frame as well.

Your profile

  • Academic degree in relevant field, Social Sciences or comparable;
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant work experience in Development Cooperation, with focus on civil society and / or Good Governance;
  • Experience in working with small scale Civil Society Organisations;
  • Experience in communication with responsibles in high positions and high officials;
  • Several years of experience in managing projects and leading teams;
  • Experience in working with different donors;
  • Very good knowledge of French, good knowledge of English and / or German.
