Job Description

Chemonics seeks technical specialists for the USAID Trade Hub Activity in West Africa. The project aims to improve private sector competitiveness and food security, with a focus on increasing the agricultural productivity and profitability of smallholder farmers in Nigeria and promoting West Africa’s regional and international trade. It will design a competitiveness fund for private sector partnerships; administer the fund and provide grants; and deliver technical assistance to directly support, coordinate, and organize qualifying recipients (i.e., partners and grantees). The Trade Hub will contribute to both USAID/Nigeria’s Feed the Future objectives to increase the agricultural competitiveness of smallholder farmers in Nigeria and USAID/West Africa’s objective to increase broad-based growth and resilience.   • Capacity building for producer organizations and agribusinesses
  • Agribusiness development services
  • Cross-border trade
  • Enabling environment analysis and reform
  • Agricultural market information systems
  • Agricultural finance
  • Public-private partnerships

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement activities within respective technical areas and in collaboration with local partners, beneficiaries, and project staff, as well as other pertinent USAID and donor-funded implementing partners
  • Provide technical leadership, management, and supervision within respective technical areas, ensuring that activities are properly targeted, technically sound, and compliant with USAID and other regulations
  • Participate in internal grant review committees and grants management and monitoring
  • Support project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting and financial planning and budgeting
  • Engage in discussions related to respective technical areas with stakeholders, including USAID and local government officials


  • Master’s degree in agribusiness, agricultural economics, business administration, business management, economics, or international development; or relevant field experience and seven years of experience of progressive responsibility; or bachelor’s degree with 10 years of progressive responsibility
  • Demonstrated technical experience in one or more of the technical areas listed above
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. government or USAID regulations, policies and compliance requirements related to international assistance programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team to achieve results
  • Experience managing the financial and administrative aspects of large USAID projects; experience serving in a similar role in the field strongly desired
  • Experience or familiarity with administrating large grant funds
  • Proven success working in team environment with program and technical staff
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and support local and expatriate staff
  • Experience working in West Africa preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in English; French proficiency preferred
