- Specialist adviser opportunity to support development of the education sector in Tuvalu

The Australian Government has established the Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) to support and implement Australian Government assistance in sectors including education, health, CSO engagement, emergency preparedness and response and Australia Awards programs in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards and education programs in Tuvalu.
Support to education in Tuvalu is an important component of the Facility. The focus of the support is on improved quality of learning for children, particularly in literacy and numeracy in years 1-4; increased access to Technical Vocational Skills Development (TVSD) as the second pathway to education; and improved functioning of the education system.
The Adviser will work closely with the Education Officer (EO) for TVSD, the Senior Education Officer (SEO) Curriculum, his staff and other relevant staff and advisers within the Department of Education. The STA will liaise with different Tuvaluan actors with an interest in technical and skills development in Tuvalu and work with the EO for TVSD to build on and develop current thinking and ideas for TVSD.
The role also involves coaching, the EO for TVSD and colleagues within the Department of Education, facilitating relationships between the Department of Education and other Government Ministries to create a coherent TVSD program for youth.
The ideal candidate will have Graduate tertiary qualifications in TVET / TVSD learning and teaching and at least ten years of successful experience working effectively in a relevant role in a development context. Demonstrated experience in advocating on behalf of children who are unable or who do not wish to undertake academic study programs but who wish to follow technical and vocational education pathways, and in developing positive and inclusive attitudes and practices among parents, community members and business owners in developing (preferably Pacific) contexts will be highly regarded. Candidates must have strong experience in developing TVET / TVSD curriculum, learning programs and eLearning materials and an ability in training counterparts in TVET / TVSD knowledge and pedagogies.
To ensure success candidates will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including senior government officials, teachers and principals. A strong ability to coach and mentor colleagues from different social or cultural backgrounds is required for success.
