ADB Backs Bhutan Power Project

Bhutan’s power project, seeking to export clean energy to India while increasing access of the country’s rural communities to electricity, will receive backing from the Asian Development Bank. The regional bank will lend a combined USD80 million from its ordinary capital resources and the Asian Development Fund. The Austrian government export credit agency, OeKB, will also release USD55.5 million for the initiative. An estimated USD201.5 million is needed for the power project.
