ADB to Lend USD188 Million for Indian Irrigation Project

The Asian Development Bank offered USD188.2 million to improve irrigation in the Indian state of Orissa. “Bottlenecks in water resources are increasingly seen as a major threat to India’s economic growth,” said Kenichi Yokoyama, principal water resources management specialist at ADB’s South Asia department. “Being the largest user of water, a more efficient irrigation is crucial for both accelerating rural growth and conserving water resources.” (“ADB Providing USD188.2M Multi-Tranche Loan Facility for India” - Asian Development Bank, Sept. 18, 2008)
