Afghanistan has received cash payments from Iran, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has confirmed according to BBC. Karzai maintained that the money was transferred in a “transparent” process and noted that Afghanistan has received money from other donor countries in the same manner. He was referring to the bags of cash that, according to a New York Times report, Iran was passing on to Karzai’s aides.

“The government of Iran has been assisting us with five or six or seven hundred thousand euros once or twice every year, that is an official aid,” Karzai said as quoted by Agence France-Presse.
