The Obama administration should expand its Global Health Initiative to cover treatment for all neglected tropical diseases as well as research on developing more effective, safer, and accessible medicines, Medecins Sans Frontieres and Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative said. GHI has proposed funding increases for the treatment of 14 neglected tropical diseases including parasitic, bacterial, and viral infections. It has, however, left out medical care for visceral leishmaniasis, sleeping sickness, Chagas disease and Buruli ulcer.
