Some 3.3 million Angolan children under five in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Benguela, Kwanza Sul, Huambo and Bie have been vaccinated against polio. Another 29,341 children under the same age group in the municipality of Seles, Kwanza Sul were immunized against polio.

The World Health Organization and UNICEF have donated at least USD133,525 to help vaccinate 388,533 children against poliomyelitis in the province of Bie. The money was used to support municipal and commune concerting meetings, and payment of subsides for provincial advisors, among others.

China and Angola, meanwhile, are keen on promoting energy cooperation, Xinhua reports. Manuel Domingos Vicente, chief of Angolan state-owned oil company Sonangol, said that the firm will bolster its cooperation with its Chinese partners in project development, trade and personnel training.

At a regional Food and Agriculture Organization meeting in Luanda, participants discussed, among other things, how climate change can erase the gains in poverty reduction and food security achieved in Africa.
