Argentina gets aid for energy-efficiency program

The World Bank drew USD15 million from the Global Environment Facility to promote efficient energy use in Argentina. “With this grant, we are contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by helping remove the regulatory, financial, and informational barriers that prevent activities and investments in energy efficiency and energy conservation,” Pedro Alba, World Bank Country Director for Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, stated. In Latin America, Argentina is one of the largest energy consumers, fourth overall and second on per-capita basis.
