Ashton to Share Duties With 3 Deputies

European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton will be sharing some of her duties with a group of deputies that include EU commissioners Kristalina Georgieva, Stefan Fule and Andris Piebalgs, the Sofia Echo reports. Georgieva is EU commissioner for aid, Fule is for enlargement and Piebalgs is for development. As Ashton’s deputies, the three will be assigned specialized tasks, including representing Ashton in case of simultaneous meetings requiring her presence.

More deputies are likely to be tapped to help Ashton carry out her duties if the proposed new diplomatic corps for the EU is finally approved and set up, the Sofia Echo notes.
