Ask Devex: How to stick with the career you love (and the person, too)

Get advice from our panelists about how to balance relationships and family with your global development career.

Devex invited development professionals to submit their own pressing questions in this month’s special installment of our “Ask Devex” series. Devex members had the opportunity to pose their most pressing work-life balance and dual-career questions to five panelists, from career coaches to those currently in long-distance relationships.

Devex members put panelists’ knowledge to the test, inquiring what to do when you want an international career while your partner would rather work in his or her home country, for instance. Panelist Catarina Andrade, a leadership and wellness coach for changemakers, suggested sitting down with your partner and discussing why an international career is important to you, while Yvonne Quahe, global mobility specialist at The World Bank, suggested crafting an experiment to try it out for a fixed period of time and then re-evaluate.
