A new book detailing the role of open markets in reducing poverty and increasing revenues in developing countries was launched April 30 by Bob McMullan, the parliamentary secretary for international development assistance. “No country has achieved strong and sustained economic growth and rapid poverty reduction without participating in international trade,” McMullan said.

    John Cauchi resigned last week as Tonga’s attorney general and reportedly returned to Australia on May 6. Cauchi said his resignation was prompted by the interference in the country’s judiciary system. The attorney general position in Tonga was created with the assistance of AusAID.
