Australia Pledges Aid for Palestinians


committed 10 million Australian dollars ($8 million) to help provide basic social services in the Palestinian territories. The sum will be used to strengthen Palestinian institutions that are tasked to deliver these services such as health care and education. "Helping to build the capacity of schools and health clinics is vital for the Palestinian people and the viability of a future Palestinian state," said Australian Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard. The funding will be provided through a World Bank-managed trust fund.
