Austrian police arrested seven Chechen men suspected of having helped murder a Chechen exile who had accused the Moscow-backed government in Chechnya of kidnapping and torture. Police officials said the seven were arrested on Jan. 28 in raids on flats across Austria. They said they could not say with any certainty if the murder had been political or had another motive. The exile, Umar Israilov, was shot dead earlier this month in a Vienna working-class district. Israilov had accused Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov of participating in kidnappings and torture sessions in a complaint filed in the European Court of Human Rights in 2006. (Reuters)
