Bangladesh needs to spend USD 8 billion on the environment in the next 20 years, particularly in the capital Dhaka, to sustain economic growth and help reduce poverty, a World Bank report said. Environmental factors account for some 22 percent of disease nationally, principally respiratory infections and diarrheal disease in which pollution is a factor. Dhaka residents are at particular risk as they face air pollution, inadequate solid-waste management, and surface water contamination, the report said. (Reuters)
