Less than a month after above average monsoon rains battered the country, a second wave of flooding is again badly affecting parts of Bangladesh. The overall death toll from flooding since July has risen to 840, most were drowning victims. The current floods have already forced over half a million from their homes and left tens of thousands stranded. Fears that late floods will affect local rice harvests are critical. In other news, authorities in Bangladesh have begun talks with political parties on electoral law reforms. Elections were canceled earlier this year after claims of vote-rigging. (Reuters, BBC)
