Bangladesh bridge project gets Tokyo backing

Bangladeshi foreign affairs advisor Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowd said that the Japanese government will take up the USD1.2 billion Padma Bridge project in its rolling plan for 2009. According to Chowd, the feasibility study of the proposed bridge is now complete. Aside from the JBIC, the World Bank and the Asian Development will shoulder the cost of constructing the 5.6 kilometer bridge – expected to be the country’s largest – which aims to connect Dhaka to the nation’s southeastern area.
