Bill, Melinda Gates Top Barron's Philanthropy Ranking

Bill and Melinda Gates topped Barron’s list of the world’s 25 best philanthropists this year.

The Gateses surpassed last year’s selections Pam and Pierre Omidyar, founder of EBay Inc.

Barron’s, a U.S. financial magazine, and consulting firm Global Philanthropy Group compiled the list, which focused on the “ripple” effect of charity instead of the amount of money.

Omidyar ranked second this year and Thomas Siebel of The Meth Project, a campaign that discourages teenage use of methamphetamine, ranked third, Bloomberg reports.
