The World Bank will direct some of its financing weight to support Brazilian infrastructure and fuel projects in order to help promote local economic growth, future Bank president Robert Zoellick said June 18. Zoellick made the comments following a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Finance Minister Guido Mantega. The nominee said he spoke specifically with Brazilian authorities about the possibility of expanding support for biofuels projects, including ethanol production. The support for fuels projects, he said, could also be extended to African nations. (Dow Jones)
