A USD4 billion railway that will connect Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania will start construction next year, Burundi’s transport minister, Philippe Njoni revealed. “The main objective of this project is to reduce the cost of imported merchandise,” Njoni said. The minister added that Burundi and Rwanda are in talks with the African Development Bank to seek financing for the five-year project. AfDB funded the project’s feasibility studies.
