Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said his government will not give back funds for various projects in which the World Bank found evidence of corruption. “How can I pay back (the money) when there is no evidence? They have preached to us about transparency but they are not transparent when it comes down to evidence requested by us,” Hun Sen remarked. An earlier statement indicated that the agency already gave the government “specific information and evidence” of irregularities, which formed the basis for the suspension of three projects and the demand for the repayment of funds. The bank, the statement added, is still in the process of determining the total sum of money that Cambodia needs to return.
