Canada is contributing 238.4 million Canadian dollars (USD226 million) to the Global Environment Facility from 2010 to 2014. The sum represents a 50 percent increase of Canada’s funding of 158.94 million Canadian dollars for GEF over the past four years.

This new GEF contribution is Canada’s first installment in its climate change fast-start funding commitment under the Copenhagen Accord, according to Minister of the Environment Jim Prentice. More than half of Canada’s new funding for GEF will be used to support climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts in the developing world, he added.
