Canadian Aid Groups Shift to Reconstruction in Haiti

A coalition of Canadian aid agencies is shifting focus to stabilization and reconstruction in Haiti, Canwest News Service reports. The coalition, which includes CARE Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec and Save the Children, has announced that it is closing its “active” fundraising campaign and toll-free donation line.

“We’ve been working with our partners on the ground … providing a range of services that were desperately needed both in the rescue and immediate relief phase,” according to Robert Fox of Oxfam Canada. “We’re bridging towards longer-term reconstruction efforts.”
