Humanitarian organizations and the UN are unable to effectively provide aid to displaced populations affected by fighting in the Central African Republic (CAR), said a top UN official on Aug. 10. Unlike in other countries where large populations flee fighting and congregate in a central location, the hundreds of thousands in CAR leaving their villages have fled into the bush where access to them is virtually impossible, said UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Catherine Bragg.
