Chinese environmental project gets World Bank loan

The World Bank allocated USD100 million to a water supply and wastewater management initiative in China’s Anhui province. The Bengbu Integrated Environment Improvement Project aims to enhance water management in the Huai River Basin, an area where 3.5 million people suffer acutely from severe flooding, industrial pollution, ineffective wastewater collection and treatment services, and an erratic water supply. “The project provides a package of activities that support the local government?s effort to address these difficult challenges,” said World Bank senior infrastructure specialist Wang Shenhua.
