Clinton foundation secures pledge from mining group

The Clinton Foundation earned another $100 million for a mining industry initiative in developing countries. With the contribution from the Lundin Group, the total resources for the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative have risen to $300 million, including the initial commitments from Canadian financier Frank Giustra and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim of $100 million each. According to the foundation, the Lundin pledge “will be aimed, in large part, at approved projects in Africa, where the Lundin Group has significant mining, oil and gas interests.” The Canadian mining company has operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo but its charitable unit, Lundin for Africa, works in five African countries.
