Cuba Gripes Over Meeting of US Envoys With Dissidents

Cuba has accused U.S. diplomats of “promoting subversion” following the envoys’ meeting with the Cuban government’s political opponents, CNN reports.

The meeting indicated “again that their priorities are more related to supporting the counterrevolution and promoting subversion to overthrow the Cuban Revolution than to creating a climate conducive to real solutions for bilateral problems,” Cuba’s Foreign Relations Ministry said in a statement.

The U.S. State Department, however, clarified that the meeting with representatives of the civil society does not in any way constitute subversion.
