Donors bolster Malawi agriculture

Malawi obtained help from various donors to finance its Agricultural Development Program Support Project. The World Bank’s International Development Association and the Global Environment Facility earmarked a total of USD37.8 million, while Norway pledged USD10 million towards the initiative. The Malawian government also announced it would contribute USD2.3 million. “We believe that through this project both agricultural productivity and food security will be improved, and that Malawi will be cushioned from the adverse impacts of the rising prices of agricultural commodities,” according to World Bank country manager for Malawi, Timothy Gilbo.
