Donors Commit USD540M for Comoros Islands

Donors attending the Doha Conference in Support of Development and Investment in Union of Comoros pledged some USD540 million in aid for Comoros Islands, Gulf Times reports.

Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi, who chaired the conference, urged donors to fulfill their aid pledges. He said funding disbursement will be handled by a committee comprising private sector and nonprofit stakeholders and will be coordinated with Comoros authorities.

Ahmed Saied Jaffar, Comoros minister of external relations and cooperation, welcomed the outcome of the conference and assured that “our government and people will live up to their responsibilities.”

On March 9, Qatar made a pledge of USD13.7 million for development initiatives in Comoros, which the Arab League named as member for the next five years.
