Donors Fail to Deliver Promised Afghan Aid

International donors failed to completely provide the USD21 billion committed for Afghanistan during the Paris aid conference last June, the Afghan government said. Of the sum, nearly one-third was "double pledged," with the U.S. and European Union committing previously announced funding amounting to nearly USD4 billion,

reported. "Everyone knew at the time this was not new money but there was pressure from everyone, including the Afghan government, to come up with a big number," a senior development official in Kabul said.
