Donors Free Tanzania Budget Support

Tanzania is due to receive the first tranche of budget support worth USD750 million for financial year 2008-2009. The funding will come from 14 donors. “The decision to provide these funds follows close and constructive dialogue between the partners and the government over the last nine months, a period which has seen steps taken to address broader governance challenges as well as specific corruption allegations,” said Danish Ambassador Bjarne Sorensen. Tanzanian Finance Minister Mustafa Mkulo said the U.K. was the first to release some USD103.5 million for the East African country.
