Donors reaffirm support to Guinea Bissau

The International Contact Group on Guinea-Bissau or GIC-GB gave its backing to the country’s poverty reduction strategic paper, which is set to be presented at a donor meeting in early November in Geneva. The group, during its meeting last week, promised to “promote and encourage the inclusion of Guinea-Bissau in the group of countries that could receive support from the UN Peace Building Commission.” It hopes to raise funds to finance the budget deficit in 2006 and find other funding sources to promote social stability and poverty reduction in the country.
