Donors Reluctant to Disburse Capacity Building Funds for Pakistan

International donors including the U.K. Department for International Development are hesitant to release USD8.8 million to improve the capacity of employees in Pakistan’s statistics bureau. “When the government is clueless about the proposed restructuring plan for converting the existing FBS (Federal Bureau of Statistics) into PSA (Pakistan Statistical Authority), the DFID will not be able to spend its envisaged amount for enhancing capacity of the workforce for training purposes,” an official source said. The Pakistani government have not met the preconditions for the disbursement of the financial aid, the source added. (“Donors unable to spend 5m pounds on capacity building” - News, Sept. 4, 2008)
